What is the difference between an observatory and a planetarium

What better way to take a trip to the stars than with a planetarium? When combined with immersive fulldome video and even motion-platform seats, the experience can be out of this world! A planetarium theater attracts customers to the store and thereby increases product sales. And a planetarium offers a myriad of advertising possibilities on its dome. Nagoya Parco Japan. A planetarium at the airport or train station? What a refreshing way to relax while waiting for a departure or a connection.

And especially in airports, with thousands of people passing through each day, the potential audience is great. Passengers without tension are happier and probably easier to please. Resort hotels with planetariums distinguish themselves from the competition and appeal to the growing number of astronomy fans.

Such a facility need not be limited only to use by hotel guests, but may also offer shows for the local community or perhaps a unique location for weddings and corporate events.

A planetarium plural planetaria or planetariums is a theatre built primarily for presenting educational and entertaining shows about astronomy and the night sky, or for training in celestial navigation. The 4,pound backyard planetarium stands as the largest, mechanically-driven, revolving dome planetarium in the world, according to Kovac.

Job duties include creating the annual budget, recruiting and training, acquiring and producing planetarium productions, facility maintenance, scheduling and developing programs, and maintaining records and memberships. Research scientists are involved in planning, designing, and conducting experiments to investigate and analyse scientific phenomena and then extrapolating data to develop theories which aim to explain these phenomena.

Doctoral programs typically take between four and five years to complete. When it is a full moon, there are very few shadows from the craters and mountains visible. The unique features of the Moon are best seen while it is waxing or waning, anywhere from a quarter to three-quarters. The key is to be friendly, open to questions, but not to give away every detail. In this situation, a volunteer can be seen as a docent, passing along information and stirring the imagination and curiosity of future generations.

If this has tickled your interest — either as a volunteer or visitor — come check us out on Friday and Saturday evenings! Our degree, surround-sound, foot domed theater has controlled temperature — cool in summer and warm in winter — and very comfortable high back seats.

Surround sound helps to add to your experience. Most of our shows are about 40 minutes. Subjects relate to astronomy and re-create celestial effects. Some of the shows share information based upon earth science subjects including weather phenomena and other topics.

At the Observatory you will look through our computerized, Meade inch Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescope to view the wonders of the universe.

We also have a special telescope made for safe viewing of the sun. During our summer Star Parties, we provide small telescopes for visitors to look through.
